Sep
Elastics are requested to correct the fit of the bite. We ask patients to wear elastics because this is the only method to achieve the patient’s goals. Elastics are asked to be worn in many different directions and have names:
- Class II Elastics
- Class III Elastics
- Vertical Elastics
Class II Elastics: An illustration of an elastic from the upper canine hook to lower back molar hook. This type of elastic corrects the front to back relationship of teeth. When the upper front teeth overlap with the lower teeth.
Class III Elastics: An illustration with an elastic from the lower canine hook to upper back molar hook. This type of elastic corrects underbites.
Vertical Elastics: An illustration showing elastics from the upper canine hook to lower canine hook. This type of elastic is designed to bring teeth together from different arches so that the teeth touch.
